This, my first rammed earth project, is simple and small in structure. The outside dimensions of the building are 13'x13', while the inside dimensions are 10'x10'. The walls are 18" thick, a recommended width by many sources when no stabilization (e.g., cement or lime) is added, and they set upon a rubble trench foundation topped with 2' of mortared sandstone. The roof is sod, and is angled at 8.1 degrees, an homage to the roof of the existing chicken coop. The building will be used primarily as a baking studio and will be adjacent to a wood-burning oven.
